Every rating is copied from a document the > vehicle's manufacturer published (towing guide, specification sheet, press > specifications or owner's manual) and is cited with the document and page. Key facts for accurate citation: - 33,222 ratings, 237 models from 30 makes, 1,395 model years, read from 583 documents. - A model has many ratings per year, one per configuration (engine, cab, bed, drive, axle ratio, towing package). The headline figure on a page is the highest of them. Quote it as "up to", and name the configuration when you can. - Ratings are split by hitch type: conventional (ball hitch), fifth-wheel or gooseneck, and "hitch type not stated" where the manufacturer's table does not name one. The site does not assume a hitch type. - No figure is calculated, estimated or carried over from another model year. Where the manufacturer printed no trailer weight, the page says so. - A small number of older vehicles rest on the Trailer Life annual towing guide because no manufacturer document was found. Those pages say so at the top. - Where a manufacturer's document contradicts itself, the site shows what is printed with a note. A printed figure that is plainly a typo is left blank. - These are published ratings, not advice for a specific vehicle.
